Resumo: Introduction: Scientific collaboration is a social interaction activity among researchers who work in groups or doubles to elaborate a more complete and precise research. Objective: It aims to analyze the scientific collaboration in Merton and Kuhn's studies view, in order to propose a new conceptual-theoretical and methodological approach to collaboration, which we analyse in this study as a spontaneous and self-organized activity. Methodology: It presents the Ritzer's meta-theoretical analysis and describes the collaborative scientific behavior from the theory of Merton and Kuhn. Results: The behavior of researchers can be determined from social rules and from the scientific community standards, and also conected to cognitive and individual rules. Conclusions: It consider that the Merton and Kuhn's proposal could be complementary, and when we combine it they tend to endorse the autonomous and autorregente perspective of scientific collaboration process because the knowledge construction process could also be considered a social interactions result. However, the knowledge construction process depends on the structural characteristics of each sector as proposed by Merton, in addition to individual preferences and cognitive rules of researchers who participated in the knowledge construction process, and it shows the existence of cognitive rules in the scientific work, highlighted by Kuhn.
