Digital library of theses and dissertations of UERJ: challenges and opportunities

Resumo: The article discusses the importance of digital libraries for sharing the academic output giving special attention to digital libraries of theses and dissertations. It draws a panorama of the Graduate Programs offered at the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). It highlights the role of IBICT as the idealizer and coordinator of the Project of National Digital Library Theses and Dissertations (BDTD) and the procedures established for the participation of Higher Education Institutions (IES) in this project. It brings attention to the TED System, customized and freely distributed by IBICT, in order to support IES in the implementation of their BDTDs. It describes the stages of UERJ’s BDTD deployment as well as the obstacles and challenges faced along the process. Finally, it place emphasis to the project achievements, the future perspectives of creating new products and services for BDTDs and it evaluates the methods and techniques employed until now.

Muestra un panorama de los programas de postgrado mantenidos por la Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Destaca el papel del Instituto Brasileiro de Informação em Ciência e Tecnologia (IBICT) como creador y coordinador de la Biblioteca Nacional Digital de Teses e Dissertações (BDTD) y los procedimientos establecidos para la adhesión de instituciones de educación superior (IES) como partícipes en este proyecto. Cita el sistema TEDE, personalizado y distribuido gratuitamente por el IBICT para apoyar las instituciones de educación superior en la implementación de sus BDTDs. Describe las etapas de implementación de la BDTD-UERJ, así como los obstáculos y desafíos. Finaliza destacando los beneficios, las perspectivas futuras de creación de nuevos productos y servicios y la evaluación de los métodos y de las técnicas empleadas hasta esa fecha.Aborda a importância das bibliotecas digitais, especificamente de teses e dissertações, no contexto da disseminação da informação produzida pelas comunidades acadêmicas. Traça um panorama dos Programas de Pós-Graduação oferecidos na Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Destaca o papel do IBICT como idealizador e coordenador do Projeto da Biblioteca Digital Nacionalde Teses e Dissertações (BDTD) e os procedimentos estabelecidos para a adesão das Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES), como participantes desse projeto. Cita o Sistema TEDE, customizado e distribuído gratuitamente pelo IBICT, com a finalidade de apoiar as IES na implantação de suas BDTDs. Descreve as etapas do processo de implantação da BDTD-UERJ, bem como os obstáculos e desafios enfrentados.
