Assignment of keywords for complete works at the event: analysis of vocabulary control

Objective: In order to verify the indexing process in the attribution of keywords in event publications in Information Science, an investigation was carried out on vocabulary control using the Brazilian Thesaurus in Information Science (TBCI) by the authors on the Portal of the Meeting of the National Association for Research in Information Science (ENANCIB). Methodology: The study had the ENANCIB Annals as a research universe and, as a sample, publications of the complete work modality of the Annals of 2015 were analyzed, the year in which vocabulary control began to be recommended until 2018. It was performed an analysis of the keywords assigned by the authors, after extraction and mining with the Keyword Extraction Software (SEP), created for this purpose. Results: 1,075 articles from the 11 Working Groups of the event were retrieved, with a total of 4,437 keywords examined. The main results demonstrate that 60.3% of the keywords retrieved in the articles are present as controlled terms in the Thesaurus. Working Group 4 obtained the best performance, in the analysis carried out, and Work Group 10, the most incipient result. Conclusions: The collected data indicate that changes are necessary for the ENANCIB Annals to have a more comprehensive vocabulary control. It is recommended to create tutorials for authors, with guidelines and benefits on using the Thesaurus for vocabulary control.
