Resumo: This report intends to describe an experience of social skills training workshops for institutionalized elderly that proved feasible to work a variety of social situations. In long-term institutions, the repertoire of social skills reflects directly on the adjustment, socialization and coexistence of the elderly, and it is important to think about interventions that seek to promote human development, quality of life and strengthening of social support. The experience showed the importance of the psychologist in geriatric institutions and the demand for new forms of contemporary practice committed to the well-being of the elderly in psychosocial and cognitive risk.

En instituciones de larga estancia, el repertorio de habilidades sociales se refleja directamente en el ajuste, la socialización y la convivencia de las personas mayores, y es importante que las intervenciones que buscan promoción el desarrollo humano, calidad de vida y el fortalecimiento del apoyo social. La experiencia demostró la importancia del psicólogo en las instituciones geriátricas y la demanda de nuevas formas de práctica contemporánea comprometida con el bienestar de los ancianos en riesgo psicosocial y cognoscitivo.Este relato pretende descrever uma experiência de oficinas de treinamento em habilidades sociais para idosos institucionalizados que se mostrou viável para trabalhar variadas situações sociais. Em instituições de longa permanência, o repertório de habilidades sociais reflete diretamente na adaptação, socialização e convivência dos idosos, sendo importante pensar em intervenções que busquem a promoção do desenvolvimento humano, da qualidade de vida e do fortalecimento do apoio social.
