Resumo: | This thesis aims to analyze the presence of tragedy as an essential element in the novels Opera of the Dead and The Bells of Agony, Autran Dourado. To do so, theoretical tools of comparative bias and the deductive method of literary analysis are used. Initially, it was sought to understand the assumptions of comparative literature, supported, among other theorists, in Mikhail Bakhtin, Gerard Genette and Julia Kristeva, whose teachings - in general reference - are based on the variables of the comparative studies. In a second step it was tried to capture the sense of Attic Tragedy and the tragic in light of the classic teachings of Aristotle and modern authors, such as Nietzsche, Goethe, Vernant and Pierre Vidal-Naquet, Albin Lesky, Pierre Brunel, Northrop Frye, Mircea Eliade, Paul Harvey and Junito Souza Brandão.s teachings. In the novels of Autran Dourado, it was focused on the aspects which best shape the tragic sense, sometimes reformulated for the characterization of characters built from the Greek archetypes, sometimes identifiable in textual elements which make the romance/tragedy dialogue more latent, such as constant interferences of the narrator/chorus, the regional space characterized on the tragic scene stage, the presence of fatum as an element that drives the gearing which leads to the tragic outcome. By being Opera of the Dead and The bells of agony contemporary novels, it is highlighted in them not only the elements containing classical influence, but also the elements of rupture through author peculiar speech, like parodying character of the narrative and the labyrinthine form by which scenarios are developed. Through the reinterpretation of the myths proposed by Dourado, it is possible to prove that the fundamental themes pervade the history of literature: the presumed rupture with old models constitutes, in fact, a perennial provocative element of innovation in literary art, justifying a constant recurrence to the classical assumptions. Results of this research work one more contribution to the critical fortunes of Autran Dourado, proving that the novelist re-presenting the tragic and, again, gives universality and timelessness of tragedy, with undeniable originality and art. |

Para tanto, faz-se uso de instrumental teórico de viés comparatista e do método dedutivo de análise literária. Num primeiro momento, buscou-se a compreensão dos pressupostos da literatura comparada, com apoio, entre outros teóricos, em Mikail Bakhtin, Julia Kristeva e Gerard Genette, cujos ensinamentos - na referência geral - fundamentam as variáveis dos estudos comparatistas. Num segundo momento procurou-se captar o sentido da tragédia ática e do trágico à luz dos ensinamentos clássicos de Aristóteles e de autores modernos, como Nietzsche, Goethe, Pierre Vernant e Vidal-Naquet, Albin Lesky, Pierre Brunel, Northrop Frye, Mircea Eliade, Paul Harvey e Junito de Souza Brandão. Nos romances de Autran Dourado focalizaram-se os aspectos que melhor configuram o sentido trágico, ora reelaborado na caracterização das personagens construídas a partir dos arquétipos gregos, ora identificável em elementos textuais que tornam o diálogo romance/tragédia mais latente, tais como as constantes interferências do narrador/coro, o espaço regional caracterizado em palco da cena trágica e a presença do fatum como elemento que impulsiona a engrenagem que conduz ao desfecho trágico. Por serem Ópera dos mortos e Os sinos da agonia romances contemporâneos, destacam-se neles não somente os elementos conteudísticos de influência clássica, mas, também, os elementos de ruptura por meio do discurso peculiar do autor, como o caráter parodístico da narrativa e a forma labiríntica pela qual são desenvolvidos os enredos. Por meio das releituras dos mitos propostas por Dourado, é possível comprovar que temáticas fundamentais perpassam a história da literatura: a presumida ruptura com modelos antigos constitui-se, na verdade, um elemento provocador perene da inovação na arte literária, justificando uma constante recorrência aos pressupostos clássicos.
