Resumo: Two studies were carried out to evaluate vitamin A supplemented by retinyl acetate in pacu Piaractus mesopotamicus diets. In experiment I, 240 juveniles with an average initial weight of 17.55±3.22g were distributed randomized in 20 aquariums (500L), with five treatments and four replications. The vitamin A supplementation in diets was 0; 3.000; 6.000; 9.000 and 12.000 UI vitamin A/kg of diet supplemented by retinyl acetate (1.000.000 UI/g vitamin A), included in mineral and vitamin supplement. The juveniles were fed at 8:00; 11:00; 2:00 and 5:00, until apparent satiety. Effects of vitamin A supplementation in diets on productive performance was evaluated, as well as body yield, carcass chemical composition, hematologic and histologic variables of the liver. No difference was observed on feed conversion rate, survival, final length and factor condition for pacu fed with diets containing different levels of vitamin A. A quadratic effect was observed on parameters of final weight, daily weight gain, feed efficiency with better results for 6.666; 6.583 and 5.555 UI vitamin A/kg diet levels, respectively. There were no differences in carcass yield, carcass chemical composition, blood parameters and liver histology of pacu. In commercial diets formulated with ingredients for juveniles of pacu Piaractus mesopotamicus, reared in a recirculation system, it is recommended a supplementation of 5.555 UI vitamin A/kg diet, providing the best results in daily weight gain. For experiment II, 2.000 fish were used with initial average weight of 66.93±15.03 g and medium initial length of 14.59±1.07 cm, completely distributed at random in 20 cages of 5.0 m3 (five treatments and four replications with 20 fish/m3). The vitamin A supplementation in diets was by retinyl acetate (1.000.000 UI/g of vitamin A) included in mineral and vitamin supplement for diets presenting 0; 3.000, 6.000, 9.000 and 12.000 UI of vitamin A/kg of diet. The juveniles were fed at 8:30, 1:30 and 5:30 until apparent satiety. Para o experimento I, foram utilizados 240 juvenis com peso inicial médio de 17,55±3,22 g e comprimento inicial médio de 9,29±0,63 cm, distribuídos aleatoriamente em 20 caixas circulares de 500 L (5 tratamentos e 4 repetições), por um período de 102 dias. A suplementação de vitamina A nas dietas foi de 0, 3.000, 6.000, 9.000 e 12.000 UI de vitamina A/kg de dieta, suplementadas na forma de acetato de retinol (1.000.000 UI/g de vitamina A) incluído no suplemento mineral e vitamínico. Os juvenis foram alimentados às 8h, 11h, 14h e 17h à vontade. Foram avaliados os efeitos sobre o desempenho produtivo, rendimento corporal, composição química da carcaça, variáveis hematológicas e histologia do fígado. Não foi observado diferença (P>0,05) sobre a conversão alimentar aparente, sobrevivência, comprimento final e fator de condição. Foi observado efeito quadrático para os parâmetros de peso final, ganho em peso diário e eficiência alimentar com níveis ótimos de 6.666, 6.583 e 5.555 UI de vitamina A/kg de ração, respectivamente. Não foram observadas diferenças para rendimento e composição química da carcaça, parâmetros sanguíneos e histologia do fígado. Em dietas formuladas com ingredientes comerciais para juvenis de pacu P. mesopotamicus criados em sistema de recirculação recomenda-se a suplementação de 5.555 UI de vitamina A/kg de ração. Para o experimento II, foram utilizados 2.000 peixes com peso inicial médio de 66,93±15,03 g e comprimento inicial médio de 14,59±1,07 cm, distribuídos inteiramente ao acaso em 20 tanques-rede de 5,0 m3 (5 tratamentos e 4 repetições com 20 peixes/m3), por um período de 90 dias. A suplementação de vitamina A nas dietas foi por meio do acetato de retinol (1.000.000 UI/g de vitamina A) incluído no suplemento mineral e vitamínico para as dietas apresentarem 0, 3.000, 6.000, 9.000 e 12.000 UI de vitamina A/kg de dieta. Os juvenis foram alimentados às 8h30min, 13h30min e 17h30min à vontade. Foram avaliados os efeitos da suplementação de vitamina A nas dietas sobre o desempenho produtivo, rendimento corporal, composição química da carcaça, variáveis hematológicas, concentração de vitamina A e lipídios no fígado. Não foi observada influência (P>0,05) dos níveis de vitamina A na dieta sobre os parâmetros de desempenho produtivo, rendimento e composição química da carcaça, parâmetros sanguíneos e lipídios no fígado, porém, observou-se aumento na concentração de vitamina A no fígado.
