The expansion of Higher Education in Brazil and Distance Education: public and private institutions

Resumo: This work starts through the study of neoliberal adjustments, where private institutions were encouragedto enter in a field where public institutions prevailed: education. Summing up to this discussion the role ofdistance education modality that has been consolidated in the Brazilian and the whole world. Given thisoverview, it is proposed to reflect whether institutions of higher education in Brazil, public and private,have incorporated the distance education as an alternative to promote access to higher education. Theresearch is branded as literature although typically not conclusive and based on the bibliographic reviewand the presentation and interpretation of data from the Higher Education Census 2011.

Em face desse contexto, propõe-se a refletir se as instituições de Ensino Superior no Brasil, públicas e privadas, têm ncorporado a EaD como uma alternativa para promover o acesso a esse nível de ensino.
