Resumo: | This paper aims at analyzing the representations on childhood and education in Guarapuava-PR in the period 1930 to 1960. Based on newspapers published in the city during the period, we divided the text in two parts: 1) firstly, we studied the issues that were raised around the child and which touched the daily lives of families, 2) then, we investigated the representations directly related to school education that the child care provided to the different ways in which writers / readers of newspapers analyzed their own educational context. In conclusion, we could see the relevance of childhood in the way social transformations of the city were understood by men and women who thought the limits and possibilities of education then existing. |

Este trabalho analisará as representações sobre a infância e a educação em Guarapuava-PR no período de 1930 a 1960. Baseados em jornais publicados na cidade durante o período, dividimos as reflexões em duas partes: 1) na primeira parte, estudamos as questões que foram levantadas em torno da criança e que tocavam a vida cotidiana das famílias; 2) depois, investigamos as representações diretamente ligadas à educação escolar que essa atenção à criança proporcionou às diferentes maneiras com que os redatores/leitores dos jornais analisavam seu próprio contexto educacional. Como conclusão, pudemos enxergar a relevância da infância no modo como as transformações sociais da cidade foram entendidas por homens e mulheres que pensavam os limites e as possibilidades da educação então existente.
