The cross-staff (1603) as a mathematical instrument for the study of measures in the math teachers training

Resumo: Among the several studies that research the insertion of the history of mathematics in the teachers training from an updated historiographical perspective, we find a theoretical current that proposes the construction of an interface between history and teaching of mathematics through the study of historical mathematical instruments. Among the devices that possess mathematical knowledge incorporated in its manufacture and its use, there is the cross-staff, a nautical and astronomical instrument very used between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries, which is inserted in the document Chrnographia, Reportorio dos Tempos…, from 1603. This article intends to present some didactic potentialities for use in teacher training, based on the Teaching Guiding Activity in the study on measures. In this way, the concepts related to the unit of measurement, such as the inch, can be studied when constructing or manipulating the cross-staff. This happens mainly due to the construction of mathematical knowledge that are mobilized in these practices, causing the teacher rethink the knowledge to then learn and resignify the same ones.

Entre los aparatos que tienen conocimiento matemático incorporado a su fabricación y uso, está la balhestilha, un instrumento náutico y astronómico ampliamente utilizado entre los siglos XV y XVII, que se inserta en el documento Chrnographia, Reportorio dos Tempos..., 1603. Este articulo tiene como objetivo presentar algunas potencialidades didácticas para su uso en la formación del profesorado, basadas en las Actividades de Orientación Docente (AOE) en el estudio sobre medidas. De esta manera, los conceptos relacionados con la unidad de medida, como la pulgada, se pueden estudiar al construir o manipular la Balhestilha. Esto sucede principalmente debido a la construcción del conocimiento matemático que son movilizado en estas prácticas, haciendo que el maestro reconsidere el saber hasta entonces aprendido y redefinir los mismos.Dentre os vários estudos que pesquisam a inserção da história da matemática na formação de professores, sob uma perspectiva historiográfica atualizada, encontramos uma corrente teórica que propõe a construção de uma interface entre História e ensino de Matemática por meio do estudo de instrumentos matemáticos históricos. Entre os aparatos que possuem conhecimentos Matemáticos incorporados na sua fabricação e no seu uso, tem-se a balhestilha, um instrumento náutico e astronômico muito utilizado entre os séculos XV e XVII, que se encontra inserido no documento Chrnographia, Reportorio dos Tempos..., de 1603. Este artigo tem o intuito de apresentar algumas potencialidades didáticas para o uso na formação de professor, tomando como base as Atividades Orientadoras de Ensino (AOE) no estudo sobre medidas. Dessa maneira, os conceitos relacionados à unidade de medida, como, por exemplo, a polegada, podem ser estudados quando se constrói ou se manipula a balhestilha.
