Representations on the Portuguese language and its promotion in the world by future teachers

Resumo: The constant changes that affect the society in the 21st century demand an education focused in the development of competencies. The proficient oral and written communication is placed among those competencies and must be developed through the teaching/learning of the mother tongue. Conceptions on it resulting from the way it is taught/learned are also important in this context. Consequently, a team from a research laboratory has been doing studies on these topics, in order to draw a profile of graduation and post-graduation students, which will enable their teachers to adopt strategies capable of changing their conceptions on their mother tongue that will undoubtedly affect their future pupils. In these studies was adopted a qualitative methodology based on case study, the use of a questionnaire and content analysis. This article concerns a study in which took part future teachers and educators, attending the first year of a degree in Basic Education. One concluded they were too attached to the geographic origins of their mother tongue and rather unaware of the variations it admitted, a perspective that is very far from being adapted to the multicultural and plurilingual society of the 21st century.

XXI exige um modelo de educação centrado no desenvolvimento de competências. A proficiente comunicação oral e escrita faz parte dessas competências essenciais e deve ser promovida através do ensino ‘de’ e ‘em’ Português. Neste contexto, cabe igualmente a reflexão sobre as representações da língua portuguesa (LP) que advêm da forma como esta é ensinada/aprendida. Daí que uma equipa de um laboratório de investigação esteja a promover estudos exploratórios sobre esta problemática, visando traçar um perfil dos estudantes (em formação inicial e pós-graduada) e, a partir desse conhecimento, encontrar estratégias para alterar as suas representações sobre a LP, o que se irá refletir nas representações dos seus futuros alunos. Adotou-se uma metodologia de índole qualitativa associada ao estudo de caso, recorrendo-se ao inquérito por questionário para a recolha de dados, que foram objeto de análise de conteúdo. Este artigo refere-se a um estudo exploratório tendo por informantes futuros profissionais da Educação a frequentar o 1.º ano de uma licenciatura em Educação Básica, que revelaram representações sobre a LP demasiado presas à sua origem geográfica e lacunas quanto à sua variação pouco compatíveis com a inserção numa sociedade multicultural e plurilingue do séc.
