Resumo: Based on assumptions of Narrative theory, this research result is presented. The theme focuses on the limits between the categories of ‘mode and voice’, developed by Gérard Genette in Discurso da narrativa (1979). In this sense, the objective is to discuss some misconceptions that the questions about ‘who speaks’? and ‘who sees’? can trigger in certain narrative texts. It starts from the hypothesis that such theoretical confusions can compromise the critical interpretation of the literary work. The methods employed are restricted to the resource of bibliographic research in the area of Literary theory, and, for that, we will use as main contribution the theoretical work, Discurso da narrativa, by Gérard Genette (1979). In the course of elucidating our hypotheses, we will select as corpus the novel Mil rosas roubadas, by Silviano Santiago (2014). With such a study, it is hoped to reach an understanding of the possible effects of meaning that the categories of ‘mode and voice’ can bring to the artistic object.

Universidade Estadual De Maringá2023-06-06info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/ActaSciLangCult/article/view/6568110.4025/actascilangcult.v45i1.65681Acta Scientiarum.
