Resumo: This article presents an analysis of Angela Carter’s short story Our Lady of the Massacre (1979), set during the North American colonial period. Drawing on postcolonial theory (ASHCROFT et al., 1991), we develop an intercultural perspective of the encounter between the white European protagonist and the Algonkian ‘Red Indians’. Our aim is to demonstrate that the protagonist’s characterization is based on the process of transculturation, using as an argument the fact that throughout her life and experience among Native-Americans, her view of the threatening Other shifts towards a sharp criticism of her own original culture.

Universidade Estadual De Maringá2009-11-24info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttp://www.periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/ActaSciLangCult/article/view/412810.4025/actascilangcult.v32i1.4128Acta Scientiarum.
