Resumo: Polyphony in negative statements from texts written by Amerindian students during the 4th University Entry Examination for Indian Populations in the state of Paraná (UEM, 2005) is analyzed. Acknowledged as one of the mechanism for the understanding and expressing polyphony, the polemic denial is the central theme of current analysis: a) polyphony may be a speaker´s strategy to deny certain presuppositions through the voice of another speaker with the subsequent dismissal of responsibility; b) denial may be a type of resistance of the Indian speaker to certain information in Brazilian society with a denial of current perspective in the positive statement.

Universidade Estadual De Maringá2013-06-07info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionLinguagemapplication/pdfhttp://www.periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/ActaSciLangCult/article/view/1616910.4025/actascilangcult.v35i4.16169Acta Scientiarum.
