Resumo:  This paper aims to investigate how Anthony’s Down issue-attention cycle, proposed in 1972, can contribute to the current debate regarding the tripartite politics-media-environment. In order to achieve the proposed objectives of articulating a revision of the issue attention cycle theory and of ascertaining the pertinence of the cycle with regard to the media attention given to ecological issues in this century, this paper unfolds in three parts, starting with the revision of the original work of Downs, followed by a national and international literature review, ending with a proposal for a rereading of the ‘cycle’. In the end, it is hoped that this research will contribute to the consolidation of an environmental concern effectively policy, aimed at our common future.

Para alcançar os objetivos propostos de articular uma revisão da teoria sobre o issue attention cycle e de averiguar a pertinência do ciclo no que tange à atenção midiática dada às questões ecológicas neste século, este artigo se desdobra em três partes, começando pela revisão do trabalho original de Downs, seguida de uma revisão de literatura nacional e internacional, encerrando com uma proposta de releitura do ‘ciclo’.
