Resumo: The chivalric romance of the 11th to the 13th century in Western Europe is discussed in this article in order to understand the influence of that genre on the formation of the nobleman’s ideal. First of all it was necessary to provide a general characterization of the forms and motivations the authors used to exalt the figure of the knight through the glorification of heroism and love. The analysis was based on the following works: Lancelot, the cart knight and Yvain, the lion’s knight by Chrétien de Troyes, and Chanson de Roland, an epic poem by an unknown author.

Universidade Estadual De Maringá2008-07-02info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttp://www.periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/ActaSciHumanSocSci/article/view/416410.4025/actascihumansoc.v22i0.4164Acta Scientiarum.
