Resumo: Based on a critical reading of The Death of the Author (A Morte do Autor) and From Work to Text (Da Obra ao Texto) , both by Roland Barthes, a study on the construction of the notions: author, reader and text is developed. Such construction, based on dichotomies, gives the text, the author and the reader important social and political functions. However, Barthes’ notion of the text itself checkmates these dichotomies and their implications, showing the ambivalence about his argument
