Resumo: This study presents one of the most famous critics of the witches’ hunt: the German jesuit Friedrich Spee von Langenfeld (1591/1635). He published anonymously, in 1631, his famous work Cautio Criminalis. In this, he contests juridically the legality of the law-suits against the witches. The witches’ hunt has gradually come to an end since the publishing of Cautio Criminalis.
