Resumo: | The aims of this research were: to compare evaluation of herbaceous cutting rooting of ‘Campinas’ (IAC 766) and ‘Jales’ (IAC 572) vine rootstocks through image and dry mass of roots analysis; and to compare three types of plant growth medium on cutting rooting (hull rice coal, vermiculite - small granules and vermiculite - medium granules). Cuttings were taken from a virus-free stock plant, leaving one leaf in the upper part and one node in the base. Cuttings were prepared with a cut below the node in the basal portion and a cut in the internode in the upper portion, leaving each one with 20cm of length and 0.5cm of diameter. After that, the cuttings were placed in plastic boxes containing different types of growth medium, in a mist chamber. A randomized design was used as statistical model, with six treatments and five replications. Each plot was composed by ten cuttings. After four weeks, proper rooting was observed, and the following parameters were evaluated through image analysis using SIARCS® software: root area; total root length; root diameter classification. The dry weight of roots was also evaluated. It was possible to conclude that: a) there was a strong positive correlation between the parameters area and root length obtained from image analysis with the dry weight of roots; b) hull rice coal provided the highest area and length of roots for both rootstocks; c) the root area of ‘Campinas’ rootstock was higher than ‘Jales’, independently of the growth medium used; d) the total root length of ‘Campinas’ rootstock was higher than ‘Jales’ only when hull rice coal medium was used |
