Resumo: Coffee cultivars evaluation in marginal region. Coffee cultivars evaluation in marginal region. During the 1980s when the climatological zoning was established in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, Ilha Solteira was classified as inadequate for coffee (Coffea arabica L.) plantations. Research was undertaken to verify whether adaptability of coffee cultivars in a marginal region was feasible for production. Experiment was developed on the experimental farm of the State of São Paulo University, at Selvíria, state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, in July, 1998, in twelve cultivars from the Agronomic Institute of Campinas (IAC). Experimental design consisted of randomized blocks with four repetitions, totaling 12 treatments. Results showed that IAC 4045 Cultivar (Red Icatu) and IAC 2944 Cultivar (Yellow Icatu) gave the best results in marginal regions due to better vegetative development
