High performance concrete applied in columns under eccentric loading

Resumo: This paper analyzes the behavior of columns under eccentric loading, with concrete compressive strength of around 80 MPa. The columns have cross section area of 15 x 30 cm at the test region, and an effective length of 174 cm. Six columns were tested. The main variables are the stirrup volumetric ratio and the longitudinal steel ratio. Articulation devices and load application devices were mounted in order to approach the proposed theoretical model as much as possible. The columns with smaller stirrup volumetric ratio showed a brittle mode of failure accompanied by the buckling of the longitudinal reinforcement. Differently, the columns with larger stirrup volumetric ratio presented ductile failure accompanied by concrete crushing on the most compressed side of the column. Theoretical models were used to obtain values of the maximum axial loads and ultimate flexural moment. The results were compared with the experimental ones obtained in the tests.

The results were compared with the experimental ones obtained in the tests.Este trabalho analisa o comportamento de pilares feitos com concreto de alto desempenho, com resistência média à compressão de 80 MPa, submetidos à compressão excêntrica. Os pilares apresentam seção transversal retangular de 15 x 30 cm e comprimento livre de 174 cm. São analisados seis pilares, em que as variáveis são as taxas de armaduras transversais e longitudinais. Foram montados dispositivos de vinculações e sistema de transferências de forças, procurando aproximar as situações de ensaios às do modelo teórico pretendido. Os pilares com menores taxas de armadura transversal tiveram ruptura frágil com flambagem das barras das armaduras longitudinais. Os pilares com maiores taxas de armadura transversal apresentaram ruptura com ductilidade e esmagamento do concreto do lado mais comprimido.
