Resumo: The conventional fluidized bed application for cohesive particulate materials presents a certain limitation due to the formation of gas channeling and, therefore, the occurrence of low quality fluidization. In this work, the use of a mechanical agitation system inside the fluidized bed was studied, evaluating the fluid dynamic of the mechanically agitated fluidized bed. Next, a study about a drying process of a particulate material (2-hydroxybenzoic acid) was done, with a medium dp of about 80 µm, with cohesive characteristics when wet. The results show that the agitation improves the solids distribution inside the bed and block the gas channeling, and that the drying process occurs mainly in the constant drying rate period

Neste trabalho, estudou-se a possibilidade do uso de um sistema de agitação mecânica inserido no leito fluidizado, a partir do estudo da fluidodinâmica do leito fluidizado agitado mecanicamente com a obtenção da curva característica de fluidização. Em seguida, foi feito o estudo do processo de secagem de um material particulado (ácido 2-hidroxibenzóico), com dp médio de aproximadamente 80 µm, com característica coesiva quando úmido.
