Resumo: The purpose was to estimate prevalence and associated factors with active commuting (AC) among industrial workers of Paraiba. Were included 2,022 individuals that responded on transportation mode to go to work: walking/bicycling by bus or by car/motorcycle. Independent variables were gender, age, educational level, geographic region, family income and company size. Multinomial logistic regression (odds ratio-OR) was used to test association. Compared with active commuting, the use of buses was higher among women (OR= 1.51), in those with higher education (OR≥12years= 2.96) and income (OR>R$1500= 2.54), who lived on the coast/surroundings (OR= 2.01) and that worked in large industries (ORlarge= 3.39). Use of car/motorcycle was higher among the older ones (OR≥40years= 1.69), with higher education (OR≥12years= 8.87) and high-income family (OR>R$1500= 14.5), when compared with active commuting. Strategies for active commuting promotion should consider different demographic, economic and educational aspects in relationship to the transport used to go to work.

Strategies for active commuting promotion should consider different demographic, economic and educational aspects in relationship to the transport used to go to work. Department of Physical Education - State University of Maringá (UEM), Maringá-PR, Brazil2011-07-14info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionDescriptive ResearchEstudo Transversalapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/9856Journal of Physical Education; Vol 22 No 2 (2011); 265-272Journal of Physical Education; Vol. 22 Núm. 2 (2011); 265-272Journal of Physical Education; v. 22 n. 2 (2011); 265-2722448-2455reponame:Journal of Physical Education (Maringá)instname:Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)instacron:UEMporhttps://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/article/view/9856/7651Silva, Kelly SamaraGarcia, Leandro Martin TotaroOliveira, Elusa Santina AntunesDel Duca, Giovâni FirpoAraújo, Valbério CândidoNahas, Markus Viniciusinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2023-01-10T15:37:59Zoai:periodicos.uem.br/ojs:article/9856Revistahttp://periodicos.uem.br/ojs/index.php/RevEducFis/indexPUBhttps://old.scielo.br/oai/scielo-oai.php||revdef@uem.br2448-24552448-2455opendoar:2023-01-10T15:37:59Journal of Physical Education (Maringá) - Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM)false
