Resumo: This paper will consider the historical agency of a poor peasant from Goiás. In order to do so, we will analyze his requirement to purchase vacant lands during the Brazilian Second Reign. We aim to showcase his strategies, as well as the existing social hurdles against the success of his endeavor. By doing this, we will dialogue with the discussions on the concepts of agency and conscience presented by Edward Palmer Thompson.

Usaremos un pedido para la compra de terrenos baldíos iniciada por él en el Segundo Reino. Tenemos la intención de presentar sus estrategias para convertirse en terrateniente, así como los obstáculos sociales existentes para el éxito de su empresa. De esta forma, dialogaremos con los debates sobre el concepto de agencia y conciencia presentados por Edward Palmer Thompson.Trata-se de refletir sobre a agência histórica de um lavrador pobre de Goiás, através de uma requisição de compra de terras devolutas iniciada por ele no Segundo Reinado. Pretendemos apresentar suas estratégias no sentido de se tornar proprietário de terras, bem como os empecilhos sociais existentes para o sucesso de sua empreitada.
