PERMISSION OF THE RULERS AND OPPOSITIONIST PARTIES IN PARANÁ OF THE FIRST REPUBLIC: the case of the elections for federal deputy (1906-1909)

Resumo: This article analyzes the nature and effects of the electoral strategies applied by antagonists of the ruling party of Paraná in disputes for the mandate of federal deputy in the years 1906 and 1909. A central argument of this analysis states that at that time, the electoral success of the opposition from Paraná depended on the non-completion of a list of candidates by the ruling party. In such a context, in different states of Brazil, the conquest of a small space in the Chamber of Deputies by the oppositions was derived from the way of building lists from candidates of governing party. Another fundamental argument in this article is that alliances between oppositionist politicians in Paraná were unstable.

Un argumento central de este análisis afirma que en ese momento el éxito electoral de la oposición de Paraná dependió de que los gobiernistas no completaran una lista de candidatos. En tal contexto, en diferentes estados de Brasil, la conquista de un pequeño espacio en la Cámara de Diputados por las oposiciones se derivó de la forma de elaboración de listas de candidatos gobiernistas. Otro argumento fundamental en este artículo es que las alianzas entre políticos oposicionistas en Paraná eran inestables. Neste artigo é realizada uma investigação sobre a natureza e os efeitos das estratégias eleitorais empregadas por antagonistas do partido governista do Paraná em pleitos para o cargo de deputado federal, nos anos de 1906 e 1909. Um argumento central desta análise afirma que, nessa época, o êxito eleitoral da oposição paranaense dependia do não preenchimento de uma chapa completa de candidatos pelos governistas. Em tal contexto, em distintos estados do Brasil, a conquista de um pequeno espaço na Câmara dos Deputados pelas oposições derivava do modo de construção de chapas de candidatos situacionistas.
