APPROACHES BETWEEN SPIRITISM AND HOMEOPATHY: notes on the functioning of a homeopathic pharmacy

Resumo: The link between spiritism and homeopathy is present in historiography, especially in works that address the development of spiritist doctrine in Brazil. The use of homeopathy by the spiritists occurs mainly through the prescription of mediumistic prescriptions and the supply of homeopathic medicines in spiritist institutions. Therefore, it is possible to observe the link between homeopathy and the spiritist understanding of charity, constituting one of the relevant elements for the social insertion of spiritism in the country. On the other hand, with regard to groups and debates among homeopaths, the link with spiritism is far from being unanimous. Nevertheless, it is possible to find cases in which the association between homeopathy and spiritism plays a central role, as in the Farmácia Homeopática Cruz Vermelha, in Santa Maria (RS). In this sense, this paper presents an initial analysis of the structure and functioning of this pharmacy, between 1934 and 1941.

El uso de la homeopatía por parte de los espiritistas se produce principalmente a través de la prescripción de recetas mediúmnicas y el suministro de medicinas homeopáticas en instituciones espiritistas. Por tanto, es posible observar el vínculo entre la homeopatía y la comprensión espírita de la caridad, constituyendo uno de los elementos relevantes para la inserción social del espiritismo en el país. Por otro lado, en lo que respecta a los grupos y debates entre homeópatas, el vínculo con el espiritismo dista mucho de ser unánime. Sin embargo, es posible encontrar casos en los que la asociación entre homeopatía y espiritismo juega un papel central, como en la Farmácia Homeopática Cruz Vermelha, en Santa María (RS). En este sentido, este artículo presenta un análisis inicial de la estructura y funcionamiento de esta farmacia, entre 1934 y 1941.A vinculação entre espiritismo e homeopatia está presente na historiografia, sobretudo, em trabalhos que abordam o desenvolvimento da doutrina espírita no Brasil. O uso da homeopatia por parte dos espíritas ocorre principalmente através da prescrição de receituários mediúnicos e do fornecimento de medicamentos homeopáticos em instituições espíritas. Observa-se, portanto, a vinculação da homeopatia com a compreensão espírita de caridade, constituindo-se em um dos elementos relevantes para a inserção social do espiritismo no país. Por outro lado, no que diz respeito aos grupos e aos debates entre homeopatas, a vinculação com o espiritismo está longe de ser uma unanimidade. Não obstante, é possível encontrar casos nos quais a associação entre a homeopatia e o espiritismo ocupa um papel central, como na Farmácia Homeopática Cruz Vermelha, em Santa Maria (RS).
