Resumo: Abstract: The theme of this article is related to the sugarcane culture and economy in the Cariri region of Ceará. More specifically, to the technological changes observed by water powered wooden mills or animal traction still in the 1930s, the later modernization with the manufacture from steam powered iron mills - such as the one promoted by local manufacturer, Antonio Linard - until the arrival of the Manoel Costa Filho Mill in the region, in the mid-1970s, where our research stops. Sugar mills.  Resumen: El tema de este artículo está relacionado con la cultura y economía de la caña de azúcar en la región de Cariri en Ceará, más específicamente con los cambios tecnológicos observados por los ingenios de madera propulsados por agua o tracción animal aún en la década de 1930, la posterior modernización con la fabricación de ingenios de hierro a vapor – como el que impulsa el fabricante local Antonio Linard – hasta la llegada de la Usina Manoel Costa Filho a la región, a mediados de la década de 1970, cuando finaliza nuestra investigación. Palabras clave: Cariri en Ceará. Patrimonio industrial. Ingenios de azúcar.Resumo: O tema deste artigo está relacionado à cultura e economia da cana-de-açúcar na região do Cariri cearense, mais especificamente às mudanças tecnológicas observadas pelos engenhos de madeira movidos a água ou tração animal ainda na década de 1930, a posterior modernização com a fabricação de engenhos de ferro movidos a vapor – como a promovida pelo fabricante local Antonio Linard – até a chegada da Usina Manoel Costa Filho na região, em meados da década de 1970, quando a nossa pesquisa se encerra.  Palavras-chave: Cariri cearense.
