FROM MIGRANT PEASANTS TO URBAN WORKERS: survival and living conditions of migrant workers in Teresina (1970)

Resumo: The present work, which is part of a dissertation text about the coming of Ceará migrants to Piauí from the years 1940 to 1970, aims to analyze a stage of the migratory process of some migrant narrators whose trajectories culminated in their definitive displacement to the city of Teresina, capital city of Piauí, after their survival experiences in other municipalities also belonging to EntreRios. Thus, we follow through the common temporality of departures, passages, and fixations in new spaces, the displacement that profoundly marks the lives of subjects, since there are radical changes in how they obtain their means of survival. In addition to the orality that we highlight as a necessary methodological approach to understand the multiple experiences of these subjects and their respective subjectivities, we dialogued with official sources and newspapers of the time. A careful reading of the historiography of Piauí combined with the reflection on the moral economy proposed by E. P. Thompson (1998) configure the constitution of this study.

Thompson (1998) configure the constitution of this study.El presente trabajo, que forma parte del texto de disertación sobre la llegada de los migrantes cearenses a Piauí entre las décadas de 1940 y 1970, tiene como objetivo analizar una etapa del proceso migratorio de algunos narradores migrantes cuyas trayectorias culminaron en el desplazamiento definitivo hacia la ciudad de Teresina, capital de Piauí, luego de experiencias de supervivencia en otros municipios también pertenecientes a EntreRíos. De esta manera, seguimos a través de la temporalidad común de salidas, cruces y fijaciones en nuevos espacios, el desplazamiento que marca profundamente la vida de estos sujetos, pues la obtención del medio de vida cambia radicalmente. Además de la oralidad que se destaca como un enfoque metodológico, necesario para comprender las múltiples experiencias de estos sujetos y sus respectivas subjetividades, se dialoga con fuentes oficiales y periódicos de la época. Una lectura atenta sobre la historiografía de Piauí combinada con la reflexión sobre la economía moral propuesta por E.P.Thompson (1998) configuran la constitución de este estudio.  O presente trabalho, que compõe parte do texto dissertativo a respeito da vinda de migrantes cearenses para o Piauí dos anos de 1940 a 1970, objetiva analisar uma etapa do processo migratório de alguns narradores migrantes cujas trajetórias culminaram com o deslocamento definitivo para a cidade de Teresina capital piauiense, após experiências de sobrevivência em outros municípios  também pertencente ao EntreRios. Acompanhamos, dessa forma, por meio da temporalidade comum de saídas, travessias e fixações em novos espaços, o deslocamento que marca profundamente a vida dos sujeitos, posto que a obtenção dos meios de vida muda radicalmente. Além da oralidade que destacamos como abordagem metodológica necessária para entender as múltiplas experiências desses sujeitos e suas respectivas subjetividades, dialogamos com fontes oficiais e jornais da época.
