"O CONCILIADOR DO MARANHÃO" AND "MEMÓRIAS SOBRE A TIPOGRAFIA MARANHENSE" PRINTS FROM THE 19TH CENTURY: considerations on paper as a raw material and invasive extrinsic actions practiced by consultants

Resumo: The study addresses invasive actions characterized by scratches, marks and calligraphic annotations that took place in two works from the nineteenth century: the newspaper O Conciliador do Maranhão and the book Memórias sobre a tipografia Maranhense by José Maria Correa de Frias. We chose them for the following reasons: the newspaper because it was the first printing in Maranhão, in 1821, and the book because it is a sensitive and significant report, by author and printer Frias, regarding the printing activities at that time in São Luís. We took into consideration the common good, heritage education, and the fragility of paper. About the latter, the study pointed out its history and different manufacturing modes, with emphasis on its use as raw material for printing in the 1800s. As a result, it is inferred that the works suffered interference from specific consulters, and not aggressions made by lay people, and that the traces left behind are irreversible and a bad example.

Los motivos de las escogencias fueron: el periódico, por ser la primera impresión de Maranhão en 1821, y el libro, por tratarse de un relato sensible y significativo del autor e impresor Frías sobre la actividad gráfica de ese momento en São Luís.  Se abordó el bien público, la educación patrimonial y la fragilidad del papel. Sobre ese soporte, el estudio apuntó su historia y los diferentes modos de fabricación, con énfasis en el uso como materia prima de la impresión en el siglo XVIII. Como resultado, se infiere que las obras sufrieron la interferencia de consultores específicos, y no agresiones hechas por legos, y que las huellas dejadas son irreversibles y un mal ejemplo. O estudo aborda ações invasivas caracterizadas por riscos, marcas e anotações caligráficas ocorridos em duas obras do século XIX, são elas: o jornal O Conciliador do Maranhão e o livro Memória sobre a tipografia maranhense, de José Maria Correa de Frias. Os motivos das escolhas se deram pelo fato do jornal ser a primeira impressão no Maranhão, em 1821, e o livro por tratar de um relato sensível e significativo do autor e impressor Frias referente às atividades gráficas daquele momento em São Luís. Abordou-se sobre o bem público, a educação patrimonial e a fragilidade do papel. Sobre este último o estudo apontou sua história e diferentes modos de fabricação, com destaque para o uso como matéria prima da impressão no oitocentos.
