Resumo: | This text addresses the work of Leo Panitch and his contributions to International Relations. To think Panitch as a theorist of International Relations means to discuss deeply the role and functions of the state (and its agencies) in its relation with market actors (banks, companies), as well as to re-think the current configurations of imperialism, its nature and its mechanisms of domination, which are distinct from those of the nineteenth century. In order to understand it, it is necessary to consider the processes of internationalisation of the state, production and finance, as well as the integration of Europe, Japan and, later, China into the informal empire of America. The bases of Panitch (and Gindin) are the theory of the capitalist state of Nicos Poulantzas. Hence, from his work, it is explained the theory of capitalist state and its internationalisation, the construction of the American informal empire and his contributions to the current reflection on the rise of emerging powers, such as the BRICS, especially China. |
