This thesis aims to analyze Nome, a video authored by Brazilian poet Arnaldo Antunes. It is a multimedia project which consists of a book, a Compact Disc (CD) and a video. Nome was released in 1993 and reissued in 2006. This research was built towards the following question, which culminated with hypothesis: what relations exist among shape, literature, image, word and music in Arnaldo Antunes‘ poetry, specifically in Nome? Thus, this thesis general objective is to analyze such poetry by an intersemiotic/interdisciplinary perspective to reveal a fruitful dialogue between poetry and electronic media. In order to achieve this investigative proposal, specific objectives intend to understand image‘s technological, aesthetic and specific processes, as well as the relationship between image and poetry/videopoetry; to examine issues about the object in study according to a cultural, media, artistic and literary perspective; to undertake an assessment between word and voice in Nome, through a comparative analysis of poems and videopoems. This assumption points that the aim is to observe Nome (2006) in its textual surface and beyond. For methodology matters, we used Peirce's semiotic method, because we understand that Semiotics analyzes meaning production process. Assuming how important this study is to its PhD program research area, named ―Comparative Literature and Intermedeality‖, it clearly signals an attempt to understand technological means and its peculiarities while the thesis attempts to investigate how poetry relates to such means. Moreover, we aim to reveal that the author‘s videopoems present a grouping of sounds, images and letters which indicates an intersemiotic point of view. Thus, this study intends to promote reflection on Arnaldo Antunes‘ poetry/videopoetry paths by presenting contemporary poetry power, which points to multiple meanings and feelings.
