The debate about Sustainability comes as a new theme to the scientific community and researchers in the area or related areas. Understand that sustainability starts from everyday practices, with the individual's consciousness about their own attitudes toward the reality of the finiteness of natural resources constitutes a challenge for today's society. Several conferences have been held in relation to awaken the great nations of the world to this fact. Therefore, this work deals with a comparative study to evaluate the level of sustainability in rural communities in Agreste, by applying the model MESMIS (Point for Assessment of Natural Resource of Management Systems Incorporating Sustainability Indicators). The research is characterized as descriptive and exploratory using a sample of 6 communities located in the Rural Municipality of Queimadas - PB. For data collection, we used questionnaires and field visits, direct participation of the social actors involved. Data analysis identified indicators such as Water Resources and Economics, contributed to the Community of Malhadagrande has a higher level of sustainability compared to the Community of Arrasto. In addition, the indicators of compound Incentive and Performance , Hand-to-Work and Technology, contributed to the numbers related to sustainability decreased. We conclude that both communities are in a good condition considered within the parameters of sustainability established and by the relevance of the model used, MESMIS.
