Resumo: This dissertation, entitled Women's representation and reception of sentimental novels, aims to investigate the reading of sentimental novels of the collections “Biblioteca das Moças”, from Nacional Publisher Company, "Romances com o Coração", from Nova Cultural Publisher and colleitctions of novels of Harlekin Books Publisheror through their trading posts, as well as the motivation of the readers and how the novels’ characters are formed ideologically. Criticized for being disposable narratives, the reception of sentimental novels went off of academic researches. In this paper, we propose the observation if the production of these narratives is anchored in the cultural and historical point of view of female training, or if it wants to keep the stereotype of "sugar and water" literature as a smaller narrative underestimating the female subjects of novels, seeking evidence that reveals the implicit discourse in the work and its influence on the readers in light of reception aesthetics and theorists who realize the reader as an agent and co-author of the text

Criticadas por serem narrativas descartáveis, a recepção dos romances sentimentais passou ao largo das pesquisas acadêmicas.
