This research aims to analyze whether the concept of the Global South influences Brazil's foreign policy in the Doha Round agricultural negotiations during the administration of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (2003-2010). The explanation is divided into three chapters. The first chapter discusses the concept of the Global South and the characteristics that may be common to these countries. The second chapter describes the main events of the Doha Round agricultural trade negotiations, showing the most sensitive barriers between the North and South countries. The third chapter describes the Lula Government's Brazilian foreign policy for the Doha Round agricultural negotiations. The methodology of this work is the literature review and document analysis. It has been found that the concept of the Global South, because it is not sufficiently well defined and because it represents a heterogeneous group of countries, does not allow establishing what is a typical attitude of its members, or what their interests are. Thus, it is not possible to say that Brazil acted driven by the interests of the Global South. It was observed that the Brazilian discourse uses the concept of Global South to justify some of its attitudes, showing itself as an actor in defense of the interests of this group of countries. However, what seems to be verified is that Brazil's action is driven by the liberalizing commercial interests of Brazilian agribusiness. The concept of the Global South, therefore, apparently serves as a strategic discursive resource for Brazil in international negotiations.
