This thesis aims to research the process of remythologization of the biblical myth of creation and the anthropological path in the works A Bússola de ouro (2013), A faca sutil (2013) and A luneta âmbar (2013) that composes the trilogy Fronteiras do Universo, by Philip Pullman. In these works, we have explanations about the beginning, middle and end of the universe in an atheistic perspective contrary to Judeo-Christian dogmas. The way this writer tries to explain the origin and end of the universe, recreating the myth of Adam and Eve rooted in Western culture, demonstrates his worldview, reverberating in the composition of the symbolic imaginary expressed in his stories. In the theoretical perspective of Gilbert Durand (2002), in the face of the passage of time and the validity of death, man can create a symbolic imaginary of escape to a metaphysical plane, away from harmful images or, on the contrary, a libidinal symbolic imaginary that takes the images of the passage of time in a positive way. Still in order to see the power that these literary images have to influence the imagination of humanity, we will seek to base ourselves primarily on the Gilbert Durant’s mythology (2002; 2001; 1995; 1988; 1983); on the phenomenology of images by Gaston Bachelard (2006; 1993); on the studies of comparative religions by Erich Neumann (2006; 1995) and Joseph Campbell (2010; 2004).
