Resumo: For a long time, photography, in its dynamic and even paradoxical aspects, has been composing the panorama of research in the field of education, both theoretically and methodologically. Therefore, in this article, we aim to discuss photography as a decisive element of a particular methodology, photo-elicitation. More specifically, we are interested in dealing with photo-elicitation, as it is dynamized in the dialogue with a particular group of subjects, the children. To this end, initially, we present a bibliographic survey on research with/about children who, methodologically, used images to establish unique dialogues with them (the children) – especially those pieces of research that make open use of the photo-elicitation method. Then, based on the analysis of the results of this mapping and, together with it, our research experiences with children, we systematized a set of advantages and challenges that are imposed on this specific way of composing the research field and its strategic data production. Photo-elicitation.Hace mucho tiempo, la fotografía, en sus aspectos dinámicos e incluso paradójicos, ha ido componiendo el panorama de la investigación en el campo de la Educación, teórica y metodológicamente. Así, en este artículo tenemos como objetivo discutir la fotografía en calidad de elemento decisivo de una metodología particular, la entrevista foto-elicitación; más específicamente nos interesa abordar la foto-elicitación en la medida en que ella es dinamizada en el diálogo con el grupo particular de sujetos, los niños. Para ello, inicialmente, presentamos una encuesta bibliográfica sobre investigaciones con/sobre niños que, metodológicamente, utilizaron imágenes para establecer diálogos singulares con ellos (los niños), especialmente aquellas investigaciones que hacen uso declarado del método de foto-elicitación. En seguida, con base en el análisis de los resultados de este mapeo y, junto con él, nuestras experiencias de investigación con niños, sistematizamos un conjunto de ventajas y también de desafíos que se imponen a esta forma específica de componer el campo de investigación y sus estrategias de producción de datos. Foto-elicitación.Há muito tempo, a fotografia, em seus aspectos dinâmicos e mesmo paradoxais, vem compondo o panorama da pesquisa no campo da Educação, teórica e metodologicamente. Assim sendo, neste artigo, temos como objetivo discutir a fotografia na qualidade de elemento decisivo de uma metodologia particular, a foto-elicitação. Mais especificamente, interessa-nos tratar da foto-elicitação, na medida em que ela é dinamizada no diálogo com um grupo particular de sujeitos, as crianças. Para tanto, inicialmente, apresentamos um levantamento bibliográfico sobre pesquisas com/sobre crianças que, metodologicamente, valeram-se de imagens para estabelecer diálogos singulares com elas (as crianças) – especialmente aquelas pesquisas que fazem uso declarado do método da foto-elicitação. Em seguida, com base na análise dos resultados desse mapeamento e, junto a ele, as nossas experiências de pesquisa com crianças, sistematizamos um conjunto de vantagens e, também, de desafios que se impõem a essa forma específica de compor o campo de investigação e suas estratégicas de produção de dados.
