Resumo: This research sought to understand how journalists working in traditional newsrooms in Imperatriz, the second largest city in Maranhão, use WhatsApp in their professional routine and how it interferes with their working conditions. To achieve this purpose, we conducted a quantitative survey of local newsrooms with daily news production and use of the application followed by semi-structured interviews with five journalists. The results show that in smaller newspapers the tool is often used to camouflage precarious working conditions, but professionals hardly see it critically and point out only the ordinary advantages.

Para alcançar este propósito, realizamos um levantamento quantitativo das redações locais com produção noticiosa diária e uso do aplicativo seguida de entrevistas semi-estruturadas com cinco jornalistas.
