Resumo: Brazil is the largest consumer of pesticides in the world since 2008. The main objective of this study was to understand the role of women farmers in the ongoing production processes aimed at updating the place of the rural in contemporary societies, based on the agroecology production system. The present work has a qualitative character and will deal with data collection carried out with five farmers in three municipalities in the northwest of Rio Grande do Sul. In the territory under study, what drew attention was leadership, empowerment and autonomy vis-à-vis ecologically based production, defending agroecology and resisting the use of chemicals, as they know the causes related to health problems and environmental contamination.

O principal objetivo desse estudo foi conhecer o papel das mulheres agricultoras nos processos produtivos em curso voltados a atualizar o lugar do rural nas sociedades contemporâneas, a partir do sistema de produção da agroecologia. O presente trabalho possui caráter qualitativo e tratará da coleta de dados realizada junto a cinco agricultoras em três municípios do noroeste rio-grandense.
