Resumo: Gender inequality directly affects the lives of women who historically have been marginalized in various fields of life in society, among them the spaces of decision­making power. The present study analyzes the explanatory factors for the under­representation of women in Brazilian politics, with electoral financing as one of the main factors. The data used come from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), taken from the candidacy and accountability repositories on municipal elections for councilors in the years 2008, 2012 and 2016, in 441 municipalities with more than 50,000 voters. For the treatment and analysis of the data,descriptive and inferential statistical analyzes were used with the aid of spreadsheets and the Jamovi software. The results are consistent and contribute especially to the discussions on how to face the marginalization of women in politics.Keywords: Municipal Elections; Councilors; Women; Politics; Electoral Financing.

El presente estudio analiza los factores explicativos de la subrepresentación de las mujeres en la política brasileña, con el financiamiento electoral como uno de los principales factores. Los datos utilizados provienen del Tribunal Superior Electoral (TSE) y de los repositorios de candidaturas y rendición de cuentas sobre elecciones municipales para concejales en los años 2008, 2012 y 2016, en 441 municipios con más de50,000 votantes. Para el tratamiento y análisis de los datos, se utilizaron análisis estadísticos descriptivos e inferenciales con la ayuda de hojas de cálculo y el software Jamovi. O presente estudo analisa os fatores explicativos para a sub­-representação das mulheres na política brasileira, tendo o financiamento eleitoral como um dos principais fatores. Os dados utilizados têm origem no Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE), nos repositórios de candidatura e prestação de contas sobre as eleições municipais para vereadores nos anos de 2008, 2012 e 2016, em 441 municípios com mais de 50.000 eleitores. Para o tratamento e análise dos dados utilizou­-se análises estatísticas descritivas e inferenciais com o auxílio deplanilhas e o software Jamovi.
