This paper aims to contribute to the debate on People with Disabilities and their interface with the professional activities of social workers in this segment today. The methodology used is linked to the critical-dialectical perspective based on a bibliographical and documentary research on the subject through the systematization of the main aspects of this debate to deepen the reflections and actions in the field of Social Work. Thus, it is presented here the journey of People with Disabilities in Brazil, the biomedical and social models on disability, the typification of disabilities that underlie professional actions, the legislation on the rights of these people and their relationship with public policies. In conclusion, this debate is urgent to consolide a more inclusive and democratic society.
