Resumo: This article aims to present some data on the history of mental health in the municipality of Ponta Grossa, State of Paraná, Brazil, between the years 2000 and 2010. This timeframe allows us to unveil the beginnings of the Psychiatric Reform in the municipality, as well as the period before the closing of the “Hospital Psiquiátrico Franco da Rocha” (HPFR), its history and its closure. It also reveals the points of view of four caregivers of people in mental suffering and of two of the professionals of the HPFR regarding the new mental health politics; the temporal hiatus of almost two years before the opening of the CAPS II (Center of Psychosocial Attention II), in 2006; and how five contemporary mental health professionals perceive the Psychiatric Reform in the municipality.

Esse recorte temporal nos permite conhecer o início da Reforma Psiquiátrica no município, o período anterior ao fechamento do Hospital Psiquiátrico Franco da Rocha (HPFR), seu histórico e seu fechamento.
