“Women and their stories”: cinema as a teaching tool for gender equality

Resumo: This article aims to report the work developed in History classes, in 8th grade classes, at an elementary school in Porto Alegre’s city, which consisted in a cinema cycle's creation, as an instrument for teaching and including Women's History in the programmatic content of that year. In order to give visibility to women and using the concept of social representation to analyze the films, we sought to decompose and interpret the cinematographic works and then verify how women were represented through cinema. Through this pedagogical practice, it was possible to create a space for dialogue and exercise of empathy for conflict resolution, the understanding of our gender inequality and the empowerment of girls, as it gave visibility to women as historical subjects.

Con el fin de dar visibilidad a las mujeres y utilizando el concepto de representación social para analizar las películas, se buscó descomponer e interpretar las obras cinematográficas y luego verificar cómo se representaban a las mujeres a través del cine. A través de esta práctica pedagógica se logró generar un espacio de diálogo y ejercicio de empatía para la resolución de conflictos, la comprensión de nuestra desigualdad de género y el empoderamiento de las niñas, ya que dio visibilidad a las mujeres como sujetos históricos.Este artigo tem como objetivo relatar o trabalho desenvolvido nas aulas de História, em turmas do 8º ano, de uma escola de ensino fundamental do município de Porto Alegre, que consistiu na criação de um ciclo de cinema, como instrumento de ensino e inclusão da História das Mulheres no conteúdo programático do referido ano.
