Partindo da hipótese de que a crise do euro não implica necessariamente na crise da União Europeia (UE), este artigo considera a análise da opinião pública europeia relevante no contexto da crise, pois a atitude dos cidadãos é fundamental para a eficiência da polity europeia (Gabel 1998). Utilizando-se de pesquisas recentes conduzidas pelo Eurobarometer, busca-se investigar a percepção sobre o papel da UE na busca de  soluções para os efeitos devastadores da crise econômica. O artigo reflete os primeiros resultados desta agenda de investigação sobre a relação entre a atitude do público europeu e os riscos da própria União. As primeiras conclusões são que, apesar da crise e quiçá por causa dela, a atitude dos cidadãos europeus sugere que esses preferem passar pelas turbulências internacionais ainda mais unidos a passar separadamente, além de acreditarem que a UE tem melhores instrumentos para orientar saídas para a crise que os governos nacionais.ABSTRACTAssuming that the euro crisis does not necessarily imply in the European Union (EU) crisis , this article considers the analysis of the relevant European public opinion in the context of the crisis. Opinion public matters because the attitude of the citizens is crucial to the efficiency of European polity (Gabel 1998). Using recent research conducted by Eurobarometer, this article seeks to investigate the perception of the EU's role in finding solutions to the devastating effects of the economic crisis. The article reflects the first results of a research agenda on the relationship between the attitude of the European public and the risks of the Union itself to be efficient and legitimated. The very first findings are that, despite the crisis and perhaps because of it, the attitude of Europeans suggests that they would prefer stay together instead in an international turbulence. Public perception is that indeed the EU has better tools to steer out of the crisis than their national governments.
