Resumo: The aim of this article is to discuss and to present an overview about the Agrarian History in Brazil. This is a relative new area of research, since the production of academic studies in this field dates from the late 1970s. Thus, the main goal will be to make a counterpoint between the historiographical production, the process that characterizes the Brazilian rural world and the perspective of progress that, at different history stages, guided the national politics directed to improve the countryside and the agriculture. In turn, without going into details of the specific content of all the historiography identified with this field, the general intention is to produce a synthesis of themes and propose some questions about the agrarian in Brazil. Therefore, to know the advances and potentialities of this historiography, as well as the subjects that are still waiting for more detailed research.

Trata-se de uma área de pesquisas relativamente recente, visto que a produção de análises acadêmicas identificadas com este campo de estudos data do final da década de 1970. Assim, o objetivo principal será realizar um contraponto entre a produção historiográfica, os processos que caracterizam o mundo rural brasileiro e a perspectiva do progresso que, em diferentes etapas históricas, orientou as políticas nacionais voltadas a modernizar o campo e agricultura. Por sua vez, sem entrar em detalhamentos do conteúdo específico de toda a historiografia identificada com este campo, a intenção geral é produzir uma síntese de temas e conteúdos.
