Resumo: This article tries to analyze the phenomenon of second residence as one of the inducers of the expansion of the urbanization in peripheral area of the metropolis. It will approach classic models and processes of this phenomenon and its adaptation to the globalized world. The article is structured in parts. The first will address some conceptual considerations about the second residence as a factor of urban expansion of the metropolis. The second part analyzes the classic models and processes of second residence in the geographical space. The reflections raised by this article pointed out that the metropolitan geographic space underwent socioeconomic changes that culminated the expansion of the urbanization of several metropolis in Brazil and in the world.

Para comprender este proceso, fue necesario analizar los modelos y procesos clásicos de este fenómeno y su adaptación al mundo globalizado, y cómo se aplican a la expansión urbana. El artículo se estructura en tres partes: La primera aborda algunas consideraciones conceptuales sobre la segunda vivienda como factor de expansión urbana en la metrópoli. La segunda parte analiza los modelos y procesos clásicos de segunda residencia en el espacio geográfico y, finalmente, cómo se desarrolla este fenómeno en el estado de Río de Janeiro. Las reflexiones suscitadas por este artículo señalaron que el espacio geográfico metropolitano experimentó cambios socioeconómicos que culminaron en la expansión de la urbanización en varias metrópolis de Brasil y del mundo.Este artigo procura analisar o fenômeno de segunda residência como um dos indutores da expansão da urbanização em área periférica da metrópole. Para entender esse processo foi necessária uma análise dos modelos e processos clássicos desse fenômeno e sua adequação ao mundo globalizado, e como se aplicam na expansão urbana. O artigo apresenta-se estruturado em três partes: A primeira aborda algumas considerações conceituais sobre a segunda residência como fator de expansão urbana da metrópole. A segunda parte analisa os modelos e processos clássicos de segunda residência no espaço geográfico e por último como esse fenômeno se desenvolve no território fluminense.
