The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the leather clothing (personal protective equipment) used by the cowboy who operates in the Northeast of Brazil during part of his work activity, trying to interpret the historical and cultural conditions that allow his existence and that create senses for those who produce it, the 'masters of the leather', and for its users. At first, the research efforts were directed to the understanding of the relevance, scenery and characters involved in the extensive low-tech livestock farming developed in the that region of Brazil.Subsequently, special attention was paid to the personal protective equipment used by these cowboys. After describing the pieces that make up the cowboy's clothing, an element of this set, the doublet, was highlighted for a more detailed analysis and registration.
