“Tatuagem feminina”: subjetividade, interseccionalidade e diferenciação

Tattooing has been widely discussed in the social sciences as well as in other areas of the human sciences. In the contemporary urban context, body modifications and the tattoos themselves have been used as research objects from the most different perspectives, having as main highlights the analyzes that approach the relations between the use of the tattoo and the processes of subjectivation. However, the linkages between power systems and subjectivities have been little mentioned, creating gaps in the understanding between the theme and the implications of the social divisions of gender, race, and class present in the construction of subjectivity. This dissertation seeks to present a discussion about the "female tattoo" using intersectionality as an analytical tool to situate the complex forms that these distinctive marks occupy in a specific context, in the city of Niterói. Interviews were conducted with white women clients of tattoo shops, in the age group between 20 and 30 years old, with university education and who had at least one tattoo. The results demonstrated that the use of the tattoo in the interviewees' discourse is marked by two fundamental aspects: the search for differentiation and uniqueness and how this search itself is crossed by markers of gender, race and social class.
