This thesis aims to understand the sociopolitical process that encompasses the peak of the government headed by the Workers' Party (PT), from 2003 onwards, and its subsequent crisis in the mid-2010s. To do so, we begin by analyzing the early years of the PT and the transformism process experienced by the party in the decade that preceded its arrival in the federal government, because we believe that such an approach is fundamental to understanding the political choices of the group that came to power in 2003. Subsequently, we try to bring the elements that explain the success of the PT administration in the federal government during the Lula years and the beginning of Dilma Rousseff's first term, as well as the contradictions observed in that context. Finally, we point out the aspects that we understand to have been decisive for the crisis of Dilma Rousseff’s management and her removal from the position of president of the republic, in 2016.
