The objective of this study aims to understand the use of romanticism as a mask in National Socialism to impose a policy of rationalist bias that would be exposed in the landscape. In other words, to investigate how the landscape was used by the Nazi regime, in view of the romantic philosophy – which was linked to Nazism – and the imperative rationality of the beginning of the 20th century. By stating that there is a use of the landscape it means to say that it becomes a tool for certain purposes. To do this, it will be necessary to answer an important question regarding the concept: from what landscape have Nazism appropriated? In other words, it will take a theoretical framework to understand the connection between romanticism and rationalism with the concepts of landscape in different languages – especially German, French and English. Specific objectives have been outlined to assist this initial question. Identifying the role and use of technique and modern sciences in the early 20th century and, above all, in Nazism, becomes important as we start from the hypothesis that Nazis were absolutely not romantic. Furthermore, to infer the impact of romanticism as a tool for consolidating a national spirit exposed in the landscape. In other words, attest to the use of the founding romanticism of a unifying myth connected to the ground.
