Hepatitis C is a major public health challenge worldwide, so epidemiological studies are paramount in the implementation of prevention and control measures. The objectives of this study were to know the underreporting of hepatitis C cases in the Piquet Carneiro Polyclinic and to analyze the genotypic distribution of patients infected with HCV. The study was retrospective, descriptive, of epidemiological character. The study population included all subjects who underwent HCV viral load testing from January 2015 to December 2016 at HLA-UERJ. The data for analysis were extracted from the Laboratory Environment Manager (LAG) and compared to the viral hepatitis test request forms (APAC). In this study, it was observed that HLA-UERJ attended 2824 patients and performed 5,663 hepatitis C tests, of which 3,371 had detectable viral load and 1,537 records of reports of hepatitis C disease were sent to SINAN. In this study, it was observed mainly the patients who had only one sample of La. HLA-UERJ and a larger female population was found 56.6% (697). The age group with the highest incidence was from 61 to 70 years old, 30.5% (375). The metropolitan region in the state of Rio de Janeiro had the highest incidence of infected 93.6% (1,152), followed by coastal Baixada 2.3% (28). The most frequent genotype observed was type 1 with 84.2% (780), followed by type 3 with 13% (120). Genotype 4 was found in a small proportion with 1% (8) in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The findings found in this study are in agreement with those of the Brazilian and foreign literature. However, the importance of completing epidemiological surveillance data with completeness is emphasized
