Resumo: Compressible soils can be understood as a topic widely discussed in geotechnical projects. Thus, advances in research related to soft soils contributed significantly to the development of soil mechanics. In the national territory, the study of soft soils was developed through the need to expand the urban network for soils with low resistance characteristics. Several types of techniques for improving these soils have been developed to provide reinforcement for the different types of constructions. In this scenario, the present dissertation was elaborated with the intention of providing greater knowledge about the Deep Soil Mixing-DSM technique. The method was created in the 50's in the USA, however it has been perfected through the contribution of several countries. In Brazil, it is still a little explored field when compared to other techniques. This work aimed to evaluate the geotechnical behavior through analytical and numerical methods in the construction of an embankment on soft soils, located at Salgado Filho Airport in Porto Alegre-RS. For the analytical methodology, the manual prepared by the agency that administers the highways in the USA, the FHWA, was applied, as for the numerical analyzes, the geotechnical programs SETTLE 3D and RS2 were applied, to compare with the field instrumentation and the results generated in the work de Assis (2016) in the Plaxis 2D program. The analytical results were within the range of field monitoring, confirming its good performance in geotechnical projects with the use of DSM. In the numerical analyses, the RS2 presented values closer to the real monitoring and the results provided in Plaxis 2D. On the other hand, despite some limitations found in the SETTLE 3D program, the results obtained were quite consistent with those in the field, proving to be a tool that is easy to apply and generates good estimates. The main divergence consisted of the real influence of the geogrid in the case under study, because of divergences presented in the stress analyses. In general, the software presented satisfactory results, however their applications lack a careful study of the estimated geotechnical parameters.

Submitted by Julia CTC/B (julia.vieira@uerj.br) on 2023-10-30T13:50:28Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertação - Pedro Henrique Rocha Santana - 2023 - Completo.pdf: 4874395 bytes, checksum: 8f27d49e7a70f43351480cbfc9f11c69 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2023-10-30T13:50:28Z (GMT).
